I Tried The Ice Water Facial

and here are my thoughts.

Recently, I heard about the benefits of dunking your face in ice water as soon as you wake up on a podcast & knew I had to give it a try! So, I tried the ice water facial for a week, and below are my honest thoughts!

What is Ice Water Facial?

Basically, you fill up a bowl of water and add ice to it. Then submerge your entire face into this bowl for a few seconds and then take it out and repeat the process. I read a lot on the internet about how long/how many times and there were varying opinions. I did it 4-5 times for 5-10 seconds or so (it is what I could tolerate).

My immediate thoughts?

Let me just start this paragraph by stating that I have a legit fear of drowning or putting my head under water but this is something that I was able to tolerate. Before the first dunk, I was feeling quite nervous because I mean I was about to put my entire face in a bowl of ice-cold water. read that again slowly.

After I mustered up enough courage, I went for it, and to be 100% honest, it felt terrible!! It was freezing!!!! However, I told myself it’s only for 5 or so seconds and only 4 more times so let’s do this. After I got through the whole routine, I immediately felt a rush of blood on my face and my face actually felt warm. Instantly, I noticed a decrease in puffiness. My face felt tight and when I looked in the mirror after wiping my face, I saw this amazing glow. I had no products on so it was good to see that dunking my face in the water did do something!

What did I see through the day?

Continued decrease in puffiness, tightness of pores, glowy skin & the dullness was gone. I have never seen such a drastic decrease in puffiness so quickly by trying any other methods before.

What did I not like about it?

I felt like I was a bit nasally after doing this which is quite possible since I was putting my entire face in the ice water. Also, as someone who has dry skin, I felt that I had to moisturize a bit more than usual since my skin felt drier throughout the day.

Additionally, I’m not sure I would have the motivation to make myself do this every day.

Would I do this every day?

No, my skin is naturally dry & sensitive so doing this every day would not be great for me. Additionally, dunking my face in ice water during the winter months is not something I would fancy doing either. I cannot deny the benefits I noticed so I would reserve doing this for special events, days I know I would be taking photos, and days when I wake up and the puffiness is too much to handle.

What are the alternatives?

After doing some further research, I do think there are alternatives that can be incorporated into the daily routine while reserving the Ice Water Facial for special occasions or days you need some extra help with puffiness.

  1. Facial Ice Rollers. There are so many on amazon right now so you can check out the reviews and find one that may work for you. This is the one I ordered.
  2. Gua Sha Tools – I have a gua sha and I store it in the fridge! This has worked pretty well since I do try to use my gua sha frequently during the week and the coolness does help with puffiness
  3. Ice Cubes – probably the most simple and one you can try as soon as possible if you don’t have an ice roller or gua sha on hand. Simply take a piece of ice and rub it all over your face.

Hope you found this post helpful! I do think it’s a great thing to do for special occasions but I will stick to one of the above 3 alternatives for daily use. Have you tried the ice water facial? What did you think of it?
